I remember my first email from Katie & Jack back in August… “We are eloping! I haven’t seen my family since January…we plan to get legally married with just parents present, then have some lobster and lunch afterwards!” – in this email she also told me that she and Jack were both opera singers, loved camping, cookie dough and watermelon. So, basically, they sounded like the coolest people ever and I wanted to be their friend!!
We hopped on the phone and they told me about all of their plans (which were happening within a week) – how they were road tripping to the Cape, going in search of a marriage license and wanted to get legally married before Jack started his show in Germany!
On August 15th, I drove 10 minutes away to the Lighthouse Inn in Dennis where they were staying and proceeded to be a part of one of the SWEETEST days. These two RADIATE joy, and genuine love and it was so obvious as soon as I got there how excited they were to be married. Katie wore the SAME dress that her mother had worn at her wedding so many years ago on Martha’s Vineyard! The day was SO full of meaningful details, heartfelt (and tear jerking speeches), and kindness!
One of my favorite moments was when a whole group of ladies staying at the inn together for a retreat and crafting, saw the wedding ceremony and then dashed inside to make the sweetest, most personal gift! The theme of the retreat was “Christmas in July” er…August, and within an hour these sweet ladies popped in during their lobster lunch with a watercolor painting of their ceremony AND two little handmade Christmas ornaments of them as bride and groom. (You have GOT to see them)
Even though it was not at ALL what they had originally planned, there was so much peace, joy, and love surrounding them as they said “I do”, and I will forever be grateful that they chose to include me in their love story. (And honestly, their lobster lunch, too. ;))
